Liposuction Q & A
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical way to remove pockets of unwanted fat from your body. It’s not a comprehensive weight-loss strategy, but can help areas that stubbornly hold onto fat even when you’ve reached a normal weight. Areas treated include:
- Thighs
- Hips and buttocks
- Abdomen and waist
- Upper arms
- Inner knee
- Chest area
- Calves and ankles
- Back
- Chin and neck
During liposuction, Dr. Baron inserts a cannula, a thin tube used to manually loosen and suction the unwanted fat out of your body. She uses the most advanced liposuction techniques to help you achieve the physique you desire.
Am I a good candidate for liposuction?
Men and women within 30% of their ideal body weight who struggle with stubborn pockets of fat are usually good candidates for liposuction. Dr. Baron does a thorough physical exam and review of your health history to ensure the procedure is right for you.
You should also be committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle after your procedure to maintain your results.
What happens during liposuction?
Depending on the type and extent of your liposuction procedure, you’ll be offered general or local anesthesia. Liposuction is an outpatient service that usually takes 1-3 hours.
Dr. Baron makes a small incision in your skin through which she inserts the cannula. She’ll loosen the unwanted fat so it can be suctioned out of your body. When the procedure is over, Dr. Baron removes the cannula and closes the incision with stitchs. What is recovery like after liposuction?
Initially, when you come out of anesthesia, Dr. Baron ensures you’re stable and sends you home with comprehensive aftercare instructions. You go home to recuperate and recover.
Expect to feel stiff or sore after the procedure. You’ll also have some swelling and bruising.
You can manage your discomfort with over-the-counter medications and should expect to be up and walking the day after your procedure. Dr. Baron usually asks you to wait five days before returning to work or regular activity. Avoid vigorous physical activity until she tells you it’s safe.
You can achieve the slim, contoured body you’ve always wanted. Call Breast Body Beauty Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery or make an appointment online today to learn about your liposuction options.
