The surgery can fix abdominal deformities that occur due to aging, great weight loss, or pregnancy. When diet and exercise fail to get you the body you want, Dr. Baron can help you achieve a firmer, smoother tummy.

How is a tummy tuck performed?

A tummy tuck is an outpatient surgical procedure. You’re placed under general anesthesia, but go home the same day to recover. The procedure usually takes between 2-4 hours, depending on the extent of work done.

During the procedure, Dr. Baron creates an incision along your lower pubic area. This ensures any scarring is hidden below the bikini line. She lifts loose abdominal skin to expose your ab muscles, tightening and repositioning them in a tauter place. She removes excess skin and sutures your incision. She repositions your belly button to match your new, flatter stomach.

Dr. Baron may also perform liposuction to remove excess fatty tissue.

What is recovery from a tummy tuck like?

Once your surgery is complete, Dr. Baron applies dressings to the incision sites and wraps a compression garment around your midsection to assist with healing. Small tubes are placed to help drain blood and other fluids from the surgical area.

Once you’ve recovered and are stable, you’re sent back home. Enlist a loved one or friend to drive you, as you’ll be groggy from anesthesia and compromised by the surgery.

Recovery time following a tummy tuck varies according to the extent of your procedure and your personal healing process. Most patients can leave their house the day after the procedure and can work from home within 4-5 days. Plan to be back at a desk job within two weeks, but if you have a strenuous job or one that requires heavy lifting, you’ll need 3-6 weeks off to recover.
