A Closer Look at Our Lineup of Cosmetic Injectables

The earliest and most obvious signs of aging frequently involve changes to the skin. Wrinkles start as fine lines and then get deeper with time. Sun-exposed areas may develop hyperpigmentation (dark spots).

As the production of collagen and elastin declines, the face loses volume, elasticity, and its youthful glow. The skin starts to sag over time as these vital components deteriorate.

Board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Aisha Baron, MD, leads the team at Breast Body Beauty in Marietta, Georgia, and is devoted to helping you look and feel your best.

By minimizing fine lines and wrinkles and replenishing lost facial volume, injectables are an excellent, noninvasive procedure to improve the appearance of aging skin.

The injectable most effective for you depends on the issues you want resolved, the results you seek, and how long you want those results to last. Here's the lowdown on our current lineup of FDA-approved injectables.

Cosmetic injectables 101

With various options for cosmetic injectables, it’s helpful to understand what each injectable treats and how treatments work. Let's take a closer look at each one.

Botox®

Botox is the most popular cosmetic injectable on the market. This is largely because it’s been around longer than many other available treatment options.

Botulinum toxin, a neurotoxic protein that’s safe to use in small doses, is used to temporarily relax the facial muscles and diminish forehead lines, laugh lines, crow's feet, and moderate to severe frown lines. Mild to moderate wrinkles respond best to Botox treatment.

Results usually become apparent 4-7 days after the injections, with full effects appearing two weeks after the procedure. Results last 3-4 months. Many clients make touch-ups a part of their regular beauty routine.

Dysport®

Dysport, which is similar to Botox, is a popular alternative. Usually, Dysport takes effect more quickly than Botox. Depending on your metabolism, face structure, and other factors, Dysport or Botox may be better for you.

Like Botox, Dysport is frequently used to treat moderate facial wrinkles and those annoying frown lines between the brows, also known as the 11s because of their distinctive vertical shape that resembles the number 11.

Both Dysport and Botox are excellent options for treating:

Dermal fillers

Fillers give the skin structure and volume. They vary in consistency, durability, and longevity.

Juvéderm and Restylane are hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. These fillers are a great choice for patients who prefer a more natural product because hyaluronic acid, a skin-hydrating sugar molecule, is already present in your skin.

Depending on the size of the hyaluronic acid molecules and how they’re “cross-linked,” or bonded together, each HA product has a distinct consistency and consequently a distinct purpose.

Juvéderm XC®

For a smoother appearance, this filler works best on wrinkles around the mouth and nose. With results that last 6-8 months, Juvéderm XC® can help with moderate to severe wrinkles.

Juvéderm Voluma XC®

Voluma XC® is the thickest, most durable HA filler and the best for enhancing the cheeks. It’s the only dermal filler FDA-approved to treat signs of aging in the midface.

The contouring capabilities of this cutting-edge injectable can help people dissatisfied with lost cheek volume. Voluma XC can also smooth laugh lines and nasolabial folds.

Voluma XC® can give you the contour you want, and it lasts up to two years.

Restylane® Silk

Restylane Silk is the most recent filler to hit the market. This HA-based injectable is approved for plumping lips and treating smokers’ lines, which are lines around the mouth. This filler can also treat more visible flaws like acne scars and wrinkles around the eyes.

Restylane Silk is free of animal protein and other byproducts. Lidocaine is added to keep you comfortable. Results can last 6-8 months.
