Should I Get Botox® or Fillers to Reduce My Forehead Lines?

One of the easiest ways to turn back the clock without undergoing plastic surgery or extensive laser therapy is with a simple series of injections that erases wrinkles for months at a time.

Two kinds of injectable therapies erase or diminish everything from fine lines to deep creases: neuromodulators and dermal fillers.

If you’re bothered by lines across your forehead or between your brows, you may wonder if Botox® or Dysport® is the best choice to smooth them out or if you’d benefit more from a filler such as Restylane®.

Just like everything else in the world of aesthetics and anti-aging, the best answer for you depends on your individual needs.

At Breast Body Beauty Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Marietta, Georgia, we offer both surgical and nonsurgical solutions for your aesthetic concerns. Board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Aisha Baron, MD, and our team help you pick the best therapies for forehead wrinkles.

Neuromodulators are first for foreheads

The neuromodulators Botox® and Dysport® are the first-line treatments for forehead wrinkles and other dynamic muscles on the upper face. Both of these neuromodulators work by blocking signals in nerves that make facial muscles contract. Use them to smooth out:

Although they have the same mechanism of action, Botox and Dysport are slightly different in how they work, how quickly they work, and how long they last. Botox is more focused, so you get very precise results. Each Dysport injection covers about 3 centimeters of muscle and nerves.

Dysport also works more quickly than Botox. You could see results within a day or two, while Botox takes up to a week or so to completely relax your dynamic facial muscles. Both last for about 3-4 months.

Our injectors at Breast Body Beauty Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery are trained to administer neuromodulators in precise injection points. We administer only enough product to block your forehead muscles from contracting so forcefully that they create wrinkles.

Your forehead smooths out, but you can still make attractive, natural expressions.

Fillers are for filling out

Even with Botox or Dysport, if you have very deep grooves between your brows, you may need more than a neuromodulator. Although we still recommend and will administer either Botox or Dysport to resolve your “11” lines, we ask that you return in a couple of weeks.

At your follow-up appointment, we make sure that the neuromodulators are doing their job and have smoothed out your forehead, so that it’s wrinkle-free. But if you still have grooves between your brows, we may administer more Botox or Dysport.

When the groove is extremely deep, we may recommend Restylane.

Restylane is a dermal filler made with hyaluronic acid (HA), a moisturizer that your body usually produces to keep skin soft and pliable and joints smooth. As you age, your HA stores deplete. In fact, lack of HA is one reason your skin wrinkles.

We inject the HA gel directly into the deep folds between your brows. Unlike the neuromodulators, Restylane’s results are immediately visible. The HA gel fills in the grooves and wrinkles, making your forehead and brows look relaxed and youthful again.

A bonus with dermal fillers is that they last longer than neuromodulators. Depending on the consistency we use, Restylane lasts 6-18 months.

Don’t worry about whether you need Botox, fillers, or both. Book your forehead wrinkle consultation by contacting our office today, and watch your worry lines disappear.
